Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.

― Joseph Addison

Let us read, and let us dance; these two amusements will never do any harm to the world.

Lena’s Readings

Lena is an avid reader and student about how to be a better person and how to live a better life. Some of have even commented that she strives to be “enlightened.”

This Section is designed to share some of her readings with you. It will be periodically updated as she discovers more noteworthy books. If you have books that you feel are noteworthy please let her know as this is a great way to share and learn from one another.

Ralph Waldo Emerson has been quoted, “The first wealth is health.”  Dr. Harry Lodge and Chris Crowley have authored Younger Next Year and Younger Next Year for Women. The latter book has changed Lena’s life and she reads it at least once a year. Another outstanding book is Dr. Pamela Peeke’s Fit to Live. She asks, “Are you Fit to Live, not only to survive, but to enjoy life?”

Everyone has “stuff” they have to deal with from time to time: Some wonderful, some good, some not so good, and some terrible. What, when, and how we respond to these events and things are key. Spencer Johnson, in his book Peaks and Valleys: Making Good and Bad Times Work For You-At Work and In Life writes about this:  “Peaks and Valleys are Connected. The Errors You Make in Today’s Good Times Create Tomorrow’s Bad Times. And The Wise Things You Do in Today’s Bad Times Create Tomorrow’s Good Times.”  Have you seen this in your life?

About twelve years ago, Lena read The Power of Focus: How to Hit Your Business, Personal and Financial Targets with Absolute Certainty by Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, and Les Hewitt. It is one of the most powerful and profound books she has ever read. She not only reads it once a year, but she has also given it as a gift.

The Experience Economy by B. Joseph Pine, II and James H. Gilmore is a must read for every business owner; it shows what businesses must do to remain profitable and grow in our ever changing world. Goods and services are no longer enough! Personal and memorable relationships with employees, corporate customers, and consumers/clients/guests will enable sustainable business and overall economic growth now and in the future.

Lena hopes you find these books of interest and use.
